With its burlesque houses, theatres and nightclubs, Toronto’s infamous Yonge Street strip became Canada’s dominant musical artery in the 50s and 60s, giving birth to a generation of musical icons.
Yonge Street – Toronto Rock & Roll Stories presents us with unseen film, video and audio recordings from that tumultuous area – including interviews with the musicians, promoters, club owners and journalists who were there.
Performers including Robbie Robertson, Ronnie Hawkins and Gordon Lightfoot share their stories of struggle and success as they describe the genesis of what was later known as “The Toronto Sound.”
