Vine of the Soul: Encounters with Ayahuasca

Documentary
English

Can a sacred plant from the Amazon heal our minds and spirits? In Vine of the Soul, a naturopathic doctor and an accountant experience life-altering epiphanies deep in the jungle when they drink ayahuasca. This award-winning documentary explores the mystery of ayahuasca shamanism, offering insights into the nature of spirituality, mystical experience and self-healing as they’re discovered through an expanded state of consciousness.

Does ayahuasca provide direct knowledge of the divine or is it a path to psychological trauma? Can it cure modern addictions to drugs and alcohol, or is ayahuasca itself addictive? Some call it a medicine, others a sacrament. Amazonian shamans say it is simply a “plant teacher” that reveals what you need to know.

Vine of the Soul features in-depth interviews with Peruvian and Canadian shamans, ethnobotanist Dennis McKenna, addiction expert Dr. Gabor Maté and scholar Kenneth Tupper. They address the increasing use of ayahuasca outside the Amazon and the potential benefits for Western medicine, personal spiritual growth and a new understanding of Nature.
