Le chant du phare

Documentary
French

All along the Atlantic coast, they were the cathedrals of the rocky shores. Their beacons lit the way and guided sailors to safety for years. Sandra Lecouteur is a keeper of the Miscou lighthouse, in a way of her own. Every summer the lighthouse becomes a concert hall, where she makes the floorboards resound with her songs. Le chant du phare (Song of the Lighthouse) invites viewers to cast off and take a voyage with Sandra Lecouteur into our maritime heritage.

Sandra is a true grande dame of song, who charms audiences with her vast repertoire of Acadian, Québécois and French songwriters. With her beautifully haunting voice and poetry, she brings the heritage of our lighthouses alive before our eyes. In this film, she goes to meet the last lighthouse keepers in places that are still witnesses to Canada’s great maritime history – reawakening the living past of these great buildings with her spirit and voice.
