Heavy Rescue: 401tells the stories of heavy recovery drivers who fight to keep traffic rolling on some of the busiest and most unforgiving roads on the planet.  Close to half-a-million vehicles travel Ontario’s 400-series highways every day.  The section of the 401 through Toronto is the busiest stretch of highway in the world. To the west, Highway 402 is an important link to the US Midwest, plagued by sudden and blinding lake-effect snow squalls.  Industry and thousands upon thousands of commuters depend on these lifelines. When disaster strikes, the pressure to clear and open roads is beyond intense.  Police and the Ministry of Transportation depend on the heavy recovery operators – ready to work just inches from open lanes and speeding traffic.

Former refugee Sonny fought for years to earn the chance to run a rotator, the pinnacle of heavy recovery machines.  But just as he’s getting comfortable in the role, he and his wife embark on the next phase of their Canadian Dream, pushing Sonny to work harder than ever and stretch himself in a whole new way. Mitch Wright is still working up through the ranks in his family business when a small job turns into one of his biggest challenges.  Kevin Richardson leaves his longtime home at Metro Towing -- but can the high-spirited operator adjust to life in a new company?  Days of non-stop whiteouts attack the highways around Sarnia and London – where last season, rookie Collin faced a close call on the road.  Now he and his father must reconsider the road ahead.  Whennearby Ross Towing faces its busiest winter in years, newly-promoted Brad Prince is forced to master his new wrecker with no time for training wheels.  At the eastern end of the province, Andrew Vink has again rebuilt his heavy crew, putting his faith and his rotator in the hands of 21-year-old Zach.  But can Zach’s ability match his ambition?  And after working for the same family for more than half his life, everything changes for veteran Eric Godard when a new company – and a new family – takes over.

Heavy Rescue: 401goes far beyond recoveries.  We follow the Ontario Provincial Police doing on-the-spot accident reconstructions, managing massive pileups and overseeing toxic spill sites. We follow the crew at the Ministry of Transportation’s massive control centre – the eyes that watch and manage the highways.  We join maintenance crews, clearing snow with military precision and jumping into battle when – without warning – winter strikes.  The stakes are high.  Every minute counts.  Every job is vital.

Heavy Rescue: 401is a series about men and women facing incredible stakes in a fast-paced, relentless environment.  Jobs and lives depend on these highways.  And it’s up to Heavy Rescue to keep them open.
