Mother Augustine successfully runs a small convent and puts all her energy and talent as a musician at the service of her students. When her niece Alice arrives, it’s clear she is a gifted pianist but also a young woman in step with the aspirations of her generation. She evokes for Mother Augustine a past that she thought she had left firmly behind. Although small, the school is a musical gem that wins all the big prizes for piano. The place is alive with scales, arpeggios, Chopin waltzes, and Bach etudes. But when the Quebec government establishes a public education system in the mid-sixties, the future of Mother Augustine and her Sisters is threatened.
