In central China, a master coach recruits poor rural teenagers and turns them into Western-style boxing champions. It takes hard work and discipline. These boys and girls come of age trained in the art of boxing and schooled with a very particular view of life. They are filled with Olympic dreams, hoping to become China’s next amateur heroes.

But the pull of professionalism also weighs them down. Their coach wants a storybook comeback in his final pro fight, hoping to show them the way. The top student boxers face dramatic choices at graduation – should they fight as amateurs for the collective good? Or as professionals for personal gain? It’s a common dilemma in the New China.
